Password Tips
- Use a mix of characters: Combine uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols to make your password harder to guess. The more character types you use, the stronger your password becomes.
- Make it long: Aim for at least 16 characters. Longer passwords are exponentially more secure. Use our generator to easily create passwords up to 40 characters.
- Avoid personal information: Never use names, birthdays, addresses, or common words. Hackers use public info and dictionary attacks to crack passwords quickly.
- Don’t reuse passwords: Every account should have a unique password. If one site is breached, reused passwords put all your accounts at risk.
- Use a password manager: Password managers securely store your passwords and can generate strong ones for you. This way, you only need to remember one master password.
- Change passwords after breaches: If a site you use is hacked, change your password there immediately. Consider updating passwords regularly for sensitive accounts.
- Test your password strength: Use our Password Entropy Checker to see how strong your password really is.
- Enable two-factor authentication (2FA): Whenever possible, add an extra layer of security to your accounts with 2FA.
A strong password is your first line of defense against hackers and identity theft. By following these tips, you make it much harder for anyone to access your accounts without permission. For more details on how passwords are generated securely, visit our What Makes a Password Secure? page.
